We specialize in new construction and large remodels, focusing on space planning, interiors and exteriors with a holistic approach to the whole home. MARIA VIDELA-JUNIEL
OWNER & PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
Maria Videla-Juniel has over 20 years experience in interior design and construction plus a former international corporate career in marketing that honed her project management and financial budget skills. Maria graduated from the UCLA Interior Design Program in 2002. The same year, her former interior design company, MV Design Group, was established in Burbank, California. In 2013 her firm evolved into The Art of Room Design moving to La Canada Flintridge, a city north of Los Angeles, CA.
Utilizing custom with retail, contemporary with vintage, unexpected textures with patterns, and personally curating accessories to finish each project to perfectly reflect the needs and personalities of her clients, Maria has appeared on HGTV and Beautiful Homes and Great Estates, in multiple shelter publications and has participated in ten Pasadena Showcase Houses since 2004.
Maria is an award winning interior designer, member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). Passionate about wellness and the impact that our surroundings have on our physical and mental health, Maria designed the Spartan Wellness Center at La Canada High School, completed in 2019 and for which she received the prestigious Founders Award from the La Canada Council of PTAs. Maria also volunteers her time for other LCHS programs and fundraisers, like the Home Tour and the Wrestling program.
CHERYL HARDY
PROJECT MANAGER INTERIOR DESIGN
Understanding that decorating a home is a very personal experience, and recognizing planning and execution are key, Cheryl brings a unique perspective to her design skills having started as a client of Maria’s. She joined the firm as a design assistant in 2005 and has since worked on a wide variety of projects including all aspects of furniture and interiors from start through completion. Cheryl is also a volunteer docent at the Gamble House, an architecturally significant historic landmark in Pasadena, California.
ALANA STEELE
PROJECT MANAGER CONSTRUCTION
Alana initially came to The Art of Room Design as a client for her biggest hobby - restoring and rehabbing architecturally interesting homes in the Altadena, California area. With Maria Videla-Juniel, she found an outlet to further pursue her interests in green home building and garden design, joining the firm in 2013.
Over the past several years, Alana has managed the development and construction of both large scale (large renewable energy projects) and small scale (home remodel/restoration) projects. She loves the research (the more technical the better!) and enjoys finding the perfect items to match a client's particular needs and budget. Alana is also General Counsel for The Art of Room Design.

Over the last 20 years, we have developed our own design and project management system tailored towards busy clients that are looking for a one stop shop to create showcase homes that make their families thrive. Our in-house team has been with our studio for more than 10 years and have broad experience with a multitude of projects. Our preferred contractors and vendors work with us on several projects a year which creates a smooth experience for all involved.
We’re known for creating laid back luxury spaces that draw from the natural surroundings and add unique elements that are personal to our clients and every residence to create inviting custom surroundings.
